Summary: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis is about four children, Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie. They have been evacuated from London during World War II, and settled with an elderly Professor in a large country-house outside of the city. The children explore their new surroundings. Lucy, the youngest and most imaginative of the children, climbs into an old wardrobe and finds it doesn't contain coats but leads to a snow-covered fantasy land. She meets a faun named Tumnus who tells her that this mysterious land is called Narnia. Narnia is ruled by the ruthless White Witch, who ensures that it is always winter, but never Christmas. This book is an adventure story full of twists and turns that tells the exciting story of the children's efforts to save all of Narnia.

~Major Themes~

Bravery: The children show great bravery in the battles, let alone just plain being in Narnia. Narnia is a foreign world in every sense of the word, ruled by a witch who has the power to turn anyone she pleases to stone with a flick of her staff. The children must be brave and trust a lion named Aslan to lead the rebellion.

Caring: The children in the beginning seem like rude pests to the mysterious professor who has taken them in, but as the book progresses you notice that the children begin to treat everyone just as they would want to be treated themselves, basically living the golden rule.
